2016-2017 Officers

Edwin Guzman

President

Edwin Guzman is a native from Vallejo, CA who first became introduced to the world of engineering through the Vallejo High School Engineering Academy and by competing on a FIRST Robotics Competition team. These programs inspired him to not only pursue a degree in mechanical engineering but also give back to his community by donating his time to STEM related initiatives in hopes of inspiring the next generation. As President with the help of his amazing team, he hopes to give NVC SHPE a stronger presence in the community and within the organization.

Nicholas Mendoza

Chief Financial Officer

From the darkness of space, a miracle eclipsed onto this planet. With the crackling of the sky, his vessel ripped through the wind, and all stared in awe, subconsciously uttering Nicholas. With the delivery of this treasure, a new age of infrastructure has dawned. The hurdles of our time no longer mattered, for he would be the one to solve it all; our modern day Atlas. Everyone understood that Nick had come into our world and he would change it for the better. In all seriousness, I hold the title of Chief Financial Officer of Napa Valley College's SHPE Chapter. I graduated from Vallejo High School's Green Engineering Academy. I am majoring in civil engineering, with a focus in structural engineering. Everyone wishes to be remembered for something, and I want it to be something big. My life goal is to build bridges, that even after my body breaks down, they will continue to support our future.

Erik Rubio

Inter-Club Council Rep.

Erik Rubio-Gomez is a 3rd year student at Napa Valley College and a first-generation American and college student. He graduated from Vintage High School in June of 2014 and immediately started going to NVC that same summer. He is currently the ICC Representative for the SHPE club and the Treasurer for the ICC club as well. He hopes to transfer to UC Davis in the Fall of 2017 to pursue his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. His love of cars is what led him to study Mechanical Engineering. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer, going to the gym, and spending time with friends and family. He says that his biggest motivation in not giving up on school is his family, and he will not stop until his parents finally see him with a diploma in hand.

Jose Alvarez

Fundraiser Coordinator

I am currently attending Napa Valley College and I plan on transfering the following 2017-2018 school year to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering. I’ve been part of SHPE since 2014 and it has helped me stay focused on my goal. I hope to continue my involvement with SHPE and continue it’s mission to help the Hispanic community stay involved in the Engineering fields. Aside from academics, I like to stay physically active and read.

Zoreen Mohammed

Secretary

Zoreen Mohammed, of Suisun City, the secretary of SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Club), and part of the Math Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) program at NVC, is the first woman in her family to go to college. She is currently in her third year at Napa Valley College and has been a part of SHPE since Fall 2013. At NVC she came to realize that "helping people was my main goal," and that "biomedical engineering was the perfect fit." She plans to transfer in 2017 to UC Davis or Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, specializing in making prosthetics

Joaquin Borrayo

Jr. Chapter Liaison

My name is Joaquin Borrayo, and I am the Jr Chapter Liaison for SHPE. My hobbies include volunteer work because I get a sense of contentment by helping to the community. My strong suits are mathematics and physics, so naturally, engineering was the way to go for me. I joined SHPE because of my interested in engineering, more specifically electrical engineering, and because I wanted to make meet professional engineers and make connections along the way. This club has provided me many opportunities to better myself with community service and meeting engineers to help me on my college path. I'm hoping to improve this club and spread their message so that everyone has the same opportunities that were given to me.

William Bravo

Vice President

Born and raised in the Napa Valley, William Bravo will be the first in his family to receive a degree in higher education. As a kid William spent most of his time building wooden karts, bicycle ramps and tinkering with dirt bikes. This passion evolved into a love for automotive combustion engines, forced induction systems and a serious need for speed. After working in the service and hospitality industry for most his adult life, he decided to return to school and pursue a career in mechanical engineering. William is on track for transfer in 2018 and is hoping to transfer to SDSU or Cal Poly SLO.

Maria Vargas

Sergeant At Arms

Hi my name is Maria Vargas and I am the current sergeant at arms for NVC SHPE and a member since 2015. I am pursuing a degree in civil engineering with hopes of transferring in 2018. I want to encourage people who wish to pursue a degree in engineering that with hard work and dedication this can be achieved. In my free time I like to swim, play tennis, and search for coins to add to my collection. I love looking at minerals (olivine is my favorite) and learning about earthquakes.

Mirza Baig

Webmaster

My name is Mirza Baig and I grew up in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area. I am a Second-Year student at Napa Valley College as Mechanical Engineering major. I joined SHPE Napa Valley in 2016 and as Webmaster, I hope to showcase our hard work to the whole world. When I’m not working or going to school, I am always outside, hiking, running, or just enjoying nature.
