My name is Cristian Guzman, I'm a 3rd-year college student and studying to be a mechanical engineer. I first heard of SHPE my first year at the college and soon I was fully onboard. Ever since I was a kid I loved to build things or take apart electronics to see how they worked so by the time I got to high school I knew I wanted to be an engineer. I'm working to get a B.S. in mechanical engineering and hope to transfer to either UCB, UCLA, UCD, or a state school like San Jose, Cal Poly or San Diego. I appreciated what the club and senior members provided to support the new members. When I started high school there was a club that took the time to provide help and support to new high school students, from then I was inspired to be part of clubs that helped various groups grow and achieve their goals. SHPE has given me not only the chance to pursue my academic goal but also provide assistance to those in the STEM field as well as the community.

Hello there! My name is Brandon Ali Gonzalez Gray and I am currently a 3rd-year transfer student at Napa Valley College. I am also a first-generation student wanting to pursue a B.S. in Computer Engineering while wanting to pursue a Masters in either transferring to UCD, UCSC, UCSB, Stanford or Cal Poly. When I was a young child, there was always something that had bothered me about how things work. This mostly revolved around technology and physics and how these two correlate with each other in today’s societies. It was this sudden urge to want to know that had provided me with the passion to pursue an Engineering degree in Computer Science and to assist my family which had a long history with Agriculture. Back when I was in New Tech High, I have done a great amount of community service as well as school service to help provide back to the community. In terms of school service, I had always taken a couple extra classes in order to become a teacher’s assistant in classes like Physics, Spanish, and Digital Media (Adobe Programs) to further help other students with the same troubles I had in their shoes. Usually when I’m not studying I like to play video games, listen/watch/read creepy stories/videos, and work at Starbucks. I joined SHPE because I was wanting to explore more about my career and network with other individuals that may share the same career path as I. Because of my past experience as a teacher’s assistant and now being a part of this club, I am wanting to encourage all high school students and share with them my college and SHPE experience in order to motivate them to pursue their dreams and their urge to want to know more.

Hey everyone! I’m Juan Lozano and it will be my second year here at Napa Valley College where I will finish my general education and then hopefully transfer to UC Los Angeles, UC Berkeley or UC Davis spring of 2020. I will major in civil engineering and luckily for me--having joined SHPE--I am fairly confident to say engineering is the branch I want to pursue. After having met so many motivated individuals who are as equally motivated as I am in SHPE, it made me realize that engineering is ultimately the career for me. My first year at Napa Valley College was a very successful year for me as not only did I perform well academically; rather, matured as an individual and acquired new social and communication skills from being in SHPE. In the 2 years that are left for me here at NVC, I will help others and the community as a whole in any way I can and help SHPE grow even more to make a positive influence on many more students like it has for me.

Maria Palafox

Outreach Coordinator

¡Hola! My name is Maria Palafox. I am a 3rd-year transfer student majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. I plan to transfer to UC Berkeley in Spring of 2019. Ever since I was in 5th grade I’ve realized how much I love math. Throughout my education my passion for math has given me the opportunity to learn problem solving skills. I want to practice my problem solving skills to design and develop new technology equipment. Being first generation college student and a female in STEM I know how hard it is to stay motivated to follow such degree. Being part of SHPE has given me that motivation to keep pursuing my dreams. I know it can be hard but we can always make it fun. I like to joke around and laugh a lot but that's because of the awesome members we have in SHPE. I have to say joining SHPE has been the best thing I’ve done since I started at NVC.There is a great level of support amongst the SHPE familia. I know that if I ever need help with anything they’ll be there to lend a hand. I joined the board because I want to share my story and help others anyway I can. As an outreach coordinator and advocate for girls in STEM my goal is to ease the pressure and fear students may have when taking the challenge to pursue a career in engineering.

Valdemar Roman

Secretary

Hi, my name is Valdemar Roman. I went to Armijo high where I became interested in engineering thanks to my teachers. My major is chemical engineering and I'm trying to transfer to UCSD, UCB, UCSB, USD or UCLA. I joined SHPE almost immediately after coming to NVC after being told that there was an engineering club that sought to provide me with opportunities to rise in the world. SHPE has been an amazing experience for me so far and I hope to provide the same to our fellow members

Pablo Leon

Treasurer

Hello SHPE. My name is Pablo Leon and I am an electrical engineering major here at Napa Valley College. I am in my third year and I am planning to transfer to UC Davis. My educational goal is to continue my studies well into graduate school. I have spent my time on campus as a part of several clubs such as the Gardening Club and student government. I also hold a position in the campus IT Department servicing hundreds of computer systems throughout the college. Outside of school, I enjoy staying active. I like to play soccer with friends and exploring the outdoors. My ethnic background consists of Peruvian (Father) and Mexican (Mother) descent. My goal with SHPE is to build friendships with like-minded people: students who are career and family-oriented; those who want to succeed and see others succeed.

Hi everybody. My name is Sebastian Rubio-Gomez and I am currently a 3rd-year transfer student here at Napa Valley College. My plan is to transfer to UC Davis in the fall of 2019 as a Civil/Environmental engineer and complete my B.S. I enjoying playing basketball, the outdoors and spending time with my family when I'm not in school. SHPE has provided a welcoming and reinforcing environment since the day I joined. I have never felt more welcome at the college since the day I joined and I thank SHPE and it's members for that. This type of environment is consistent throughout the different chapters across the nation which I would like to encourage others to be a part of.   â€‹

Samuel Ayala

Webmaster

Hi SHPE! My name is Sammy Ayala. I am a third year college student here at NVC serving as the webmaster of our chapter. I graduated from Napa High School in June of 2016. I am a Electrical Engineering major hoping to transfer to either Cal Poly Slo, UCLA, UCB or UCSD in Fall of 2019. I joined SHPE back in Fall 2018 and I wish I had done it sooner, SHPE has given me a place to call home. I met, and continue to meet cool like-minded individuals that help me solidify my choice in pursuing an engineering degree. Likewise the many events that SHPE are involved in have been the highlights of my college career thus far. I encourage everyone to join SHPE and strive towards the future.
