Hello everyone! My name is Jonathan Duong, but I prefer to go by Johnny. Honestly, either name is completely fine with me, but please do not call me Jon. I am currently a third-year student at Napa Valley College with the intent to pursue Civil Engineering as my B.S. degree. My goal is to be able to attend UCLA in the fall of 2020 and learn how to adapt to uncomfortable situations and getting the chance to meet new people. For coursework, I have already completed the calculus series, chemistry series, physics series, and three different English classes. I personally never heard of SHPE until attending the JC, but SHPE has provided like-minded students to be able to share their minds while also helping me grow professionally and socially. In the end, my
fellow SHPE members have given me a sense of belonging and familiarity and I appreciate the fact that I can personally depend on them for academic or personal advice. As a young kid, I always knew I had a passion for learning in any of my math and science classes and I always wanted to know the why and how things worked. This curiosity has helped me learn to never settle for anything you get in life until you are satisfied with what you have been waiting for that amount of time. Lastly, I want to be a role model for students to be driven for knowledge and to chase after their wildest dreams.

Morgan Boehme

Co-President

My name is Morgan Boehme, I am a 3rd-year transfer student majoring in Electrical Engineering. I plan on transferring to UC Davis in fall of 2019 with a focus in electrical power systems. As a kid I found a passion in building and fixing things. Taking parts from one device and using it to fix another. It took me a while to make the push to get my B.S. in engineering. But finding these amazing people in SHPE all working hard to become engineers in their own way really helped me decide on electrical as my major. I found many opportunities and advice was always provided from the members and professional engineers. I made friends I never had and met people going through the same struggles as me. SHPE has also given me not only the chance to pursue my academic goal but also provide assistance to those in the STEM field as well as the community.

Luis Urena

Vice President

Hi! My name is Luis Ureña, my computer science journey started at Vintage High School where I took the AP Computer Science course. I discovered a passion that was fueled by the freedom of creativity given the tools that the teacher gave us. I am pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science. In my free time, I like to enjoy the outdoors, spend time with my family and friends, and read. I like to explore different types of cuisine, and love coffee. I love being very busy and love to meet new people. To summarize who I am today, one of my favorite books is called “The Achievement Habit” by Bernard Roth. It has shaped my way of thinking and has to lead me to pursue everything I have ever wanted. I’ve done triathlons, running events, and got the courage to join SHPE. I joined SHPE because I wanted help finding the motivation to pursue my career. Today, I am not only fueled by the individuals I have met in SHPE but by the inspiration to lead others.

Juan Lozano

Treasurer

Hey everyone! I am Juan Lozano and it will be my third and final year here at Napa Valley College where I will finish my general education and then hopefully transfer to UC Los Angeles, UC Berkeley, UC Davis or San Jose State spring of 2020. I will major in civil engineering and luckily for me--having joined SHPE--I am fairly confident to say engineering is the branch I want to pursue. After having met so many motivated individuals who are as equally motivated as I am in SHPE, it made me realize that engineering is ultimately the career for me. My first year at Napa Valley College was a very successful year for me as not only did I perform well academically; rather, matured as an individual and acquired new social and communication skills from being in SHPE. In the last year that’s left for me here at NVC, I will help others and the community as a whole in any way I can and help SHPE grow even more to make a positive influence on many more students like it has for me.

Angel Rodriguez

Public Relation Officer

Hello everyone! My name is Angel Rodriguez and I am currently in my third year here at Napa Valley College. I graduated from high school in 2017 and joined NVC in 2017. My first year I wasn't an engineering major and I didn't make the most out of my experience here in Napa. As my second year hit I was able to meet a group friends that consisted mostly of engineering majors. Before meeting them and joining shpe, I always had engineering in the back of my mind but becoming friends with them solidified chemical engineering for me. I would highly recommend anyone who's an engineer major to join shpe and to take advantage of everything we offer!

Hello everybody, my name is Anthony Fuentes. I am pursuing a degree in civil engineering and plan to transfer to UCLA, Berkeley or Davis. This is my last year at the college and throughout my experience at the college, I can say that SHPE has had a positive influence on my life as a college student. From the beginning, SHPE provided me with a welcoming environment where similarly minded students gathered together and helped each other reach their goal. I have met new friends through the club and the club has provided me with opportunities to talk and communicate with professional engineers. By joining the board I hope to continue this club for the new students so they can have a similar opportunities to the ones that I have.
